Virginia Pottery is located in Frederick County, Virginia, five miles west of Winchester, Virginia, in the Shenandoah Valley. The resident potter is Steven Wilson, who has his studio at his home and an adjacent building where he displays his pottery. He operates an electric kiln in his studio for firing his porcelain and stoneware functional pottery pieces. He also has a gas kiln which he utilizes to fire raku decorative pottery.
Steven has worked in clay for many years, but more seriously since he retired in 1999 as an art instructor in the Frederick County School system with 30 years of service. He graduated from Shepherd University with a BA Degree in Art Education and a MA degree in Art from James Madison University.
Steven has been an active member of the Shenandoah Potter’s Guild for many years and has exhibited his pottery in museums, artisan’s co-ops, and other businesses in the area.
